Practical Energy Training

Practical Energy  (8 hours)
A full day course that covers the key aspects of all Practical Energy modules listed below.

Lighting  (1-1.5 hours)
Learn about the importance of selecting the appropriate lighting & how to calculate the return on investment associated with replacing conventional lighting.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning  (1-1.5 hours)
Learn the importance of monitoring, adjusting, and controlling the HVAC system.

Boiler, Steam, and Hot Water Systems  (1-1.5 hours)
Understand the energy saving potential of selecting the appropriate steam trap & the importance of proper insulation of pipes.

Industrial Ventilation, Fans, Dust Collectors  (1-1.5 hours)
Focus on identifying items in your current ventilation system that increase power consumption.

Motors  (1-1.5 hours)
Teaches participants how to recognize opportunities that exist for reducing energy usage by proper selection and maintenance of motors.

Conveyors  (1-1.5 hours)
Focus on identification of the various types of conveyors and their applications.

Compressed Air  (1-1.5 hours)
Learn about the energy costs associated with compressed air systems.

Production Equipment, Hand Tools  (1-1.5 hours)
Attendees learn about the energy consumption of electric power tools versus pneumatic power tools.

An overview of how chillers and cooling towers work & how to minimize energy consumption in existing systems.

Renewable Energy  (1-1.5 hours)
Learn about the various renewable energy sources available today & an overview of alternative means for reducing energy costs in your company.

Sustainable Assessments

Energy Assessments Available at NO CHARGE to Alabama Manufacturers

Thanks to a U.S. Department of Energy grant that is being managed through ADECA-Energy Division - Manufacturers located within the state of Alabama can request an Energy Assessment at No Charge to the company.  The Energy Assessment provided is valued from $ 4,000 to $8,000.  The Alabama Technology Network and Alabama Industrial Assessment Center are conducting the assessments.

Already 30 Alabama Manufacturing companies have benefited from the assessments, with an average of $102, 873 of identified energy savings per company.  Collectively, the identifed energy savings for these 30 companies is $3,086,182.

Alabama E3:  Economy, Energy, and Environment

The mission of the Alabama E3 initiative is to reduce wastes, lower costs, and increase profitability for Alabama’s manufacturers.  Reducing costs for Alabama manufacturers will result in increased competitiveness for the companies relative to their peers and a thriving manufacturing economy in Alabama.

E3 is a coordinated technical assistance initiative that assists manufacturers to increase profits and strengthen their future by implementing efficient production processes, reducing all wastes, lowering costs, growing jobs and driving innovation.

Alabama Biomass Program

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) – Energy Division sponsors the Biomass Energy Program to assist businesses in installing biomass systems. This program is open to any industry participant in Alabama who is utilizing a biomass fuel source as a replacement for traditional fossil fuels, including waste wood, switchgrass, and landfill gas.

ADECA-Energy Division is committed to providing leadership and assistance to the citizens and organizations of the state of Alabama through the management and development of energy programs promoting energy efficiency and renwable energy.
