UAH Office of Operational Excellence (OOE)
Joe Paxton is a Principal Research Scientist in the Office for Operational Excellence at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Mr. Paxton has diverse experience in training and implementing continuous improvement principles, as well as optimizing supply chains. He has over 20 years’ experience includes engineering and engineering management in private, public and state and federal government organizations.
Mr. Paxton has trained personnel, facilitated value stream mapping and kaizen events and coached personnel in numerous industries, including aerospace/defense, healthcare, electronics, medical, industrial equipment, forest products, and automotive. Mr. Paxton has also conducted energy and environmental assessments to reduce the consumption of energy and reduce the carbon footprint of manufacturing operations. Recent activities include applying lean principles and improving business processes (such as Foreign Military Sales, funding execution and acquisition) for the Department of Energy, U.S. Army, Defense Logistics Agency and Missile Defense Agency, mapping and optimizing supply chains for NASA and the U.S. Army, conducting an operational and strategic evaluation of logistics across the Missile Defense Agency, and training and mentoring Huntsville Hospital staff in the implementation of lean principles across all service lines and administrative functions.
Mr. Paxton is a NIST certified trainer in Principles of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Quick Changeover, Kanban/Pull Systems, Total Productive Maintenance and Value Stream Mapping. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a major in Manufacturing Systems. He is also a Certified SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) Professional, a Certified Green Generalist, a Six Sigma Green Belt, and ISO 9000 Internal Auditor and has received numerous commendations from customers, both commercial and government.
