Alabama counties rank high for manufacturing job growth

Alabama is one of the few states where manufacturing is still king, due mostly to the ever-growing presence of the automotive industry.
Headlight Data recently reported its county-by-county rankings for manufacturing job growth, and many Alabama counties found their way into the upper echelon of the 2,746 counties ranked on net change from 2013 to 2014.
Morgan County led all Alabama counties – ranking 51st overall for job growth in the manufacturing sector by adding 758 jobs from 2013 to 2014.

REEL to open facility at Mobile Aeroplex to serve Airbus Alabama

MOBILE, Alabama – REEL USA Corp. will open an office and workshop at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, where the company will service the critical jigs and tools used in Airbus’ first U.S. manufacturing facility.
Today’s announcement involving REEL is the latest in a string of Airbus-related expansion moves at the Aeroplex, where the France-based aviation giant is preparing to begin assembly of A320 family passenger jets.
REEL’s new Alabama facility will employ more than 20 people over the project’s three main phases.

Alabama’s top trading partners driven by one key industry

Alabama’s three auto assembly plants cranked out nearly 1 million vehicles last year, so it’s no surprise that the industry dominates the state’s trade statistics.
That’s true for both exports and imports.
Business Insider recently compiled maps showing the most important trading partners for each state.
On the import side, Alabama’s top trading partner, South Korea, stands out in a sea of Canada and China, which fill that role in most other states.
