UAH receives $3 million EDA grant to build invention to innovation center

The University of Alabama in Huntsville has been awarded a grant of nearly $3 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration that will be used for the construction of a technology business incubator, according to an announcement made today by U.S. Senator Richard Shelby.

“The grant award announced to day is a significant step towards turning The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s vision to establish an innovative and job-creating business incubator into reality,” said Senator Shelby.

Toyota To Sell Cars That Communicate With Each Other And Roadways By Year End

Toyota aims to become the first automaker to mass market talking cars-that is to say, vehicles that can receive and share data transmitted by external infrastructure and by other vehicles.

So-called “vehicle-to-infrastructure” and “vehicle-to-vehicle” communications are key to enabling autonomous cars because they provide essential safety information that sensors and cameras onboard vehicles cannot pick up. Many automakers, including General Motors, are working on this technology, but Toyota is the first to announce that it will make it available to consumers.

Survey: Birmingham ranks as the top city for millennial entrepreneurs

Attracting young professionals to Birmingham has been a goal of business and city leaders for some time, and the efforts appear to be paying off.

A recent survey by Thumbtack ranked Birmingham in first place for its list of the Top 10 Cities for Millennial Entrepreneurs.

Birmingham has been a hotbed for startups in recent years, as business incubators like Innovation Depot work to cultivate the ideas of the city’s aspiring entrepreneurs.
