Nucor to invest $4.4 million in Decatur steel operation

Nucor Steel will make a capital investment of $4.4 million this year at its steel manufacturing plant in Decatur.
The company will buy new equipment for Nucor’s hot mill pickle line, allowing for a broader range of products to reach additional markets and attract new customers. The investment will not directly create any new jobs at Nucor’s Decatur site, which has 730 employees and an annual payroll of more than $85 million before benefits.

Alabama firm unveils new high-performance pickups

A Trussville-based specialty vehicle manufacturer has debuted the latest versions of an off-road, high-performance pickup that’s a key part of its product lineup.
SCA Performance is rolling out to dealers the redesigned 2016 Black Widow, which is built on both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra platforms.
Features of the new Black Widow include a 6-inch suspension lift system, 36-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, red ambient cabin lighting and a stainless steel performance exhaust.

Hold tight to that helium balloon, or you know what’ll happen: It’ll go up, up, up and away because it’s lighter than the air it displaces. However, an object doesn’t have to be that light to get airborne and stay there. For instance, air pressure variations lift a plane off the ground thanks to the shape of the wings.
That doesn’t mean lighter planes are a bad idea, though. They use less fuel, and, therefore, create fewer harmful emissions. The development of lighter materials, or composites, in the aerospace industry has been underway for decades – and it’s ongoing. Composite materials were a breakthrough, and they’re still being improved.
