Alabama auto industry adds jobs, investment in communities big and small

Alabama’s auto industry continues to power new investment and jobs across the state.

Over the past year, auto suppliers have announced new facilities and expansions worth at least $924 million and more than 2,500 new jobs in activities ranging from precision machining to engineering.

Among the companies growing in Alabama is Lear Operations Corp., which this summer announced a $27.7 million, 535-job expansion of its Tuscaloosa County plant.

Orders for Robots Hit Record in First Half of 2016

The North American automation industry has set new records to begin 2016, according to the Association for Advancing Automation.

A total of 14,583 robots valued at approximately $817 million were ordered from North American companies during the first half of 2016.

The number of units ordered in the first six months marks a new record to begin the year, growing 2% over the same period in 2015, which held the previous record.
