Toyota taps new president for Huntsville engine plant

David Fernandes will be the new president of Toyota Motor North America’s Huntsville engine plant, beginning next month.

The company made the announcement today.

Fernandes said in a statement that he is “grateful and humbled for the opportunity.”

“Since joining this team earlier this year I have seen firsthand the commitment our workforce makes to meet customer demands while focusing on quality and safety,” Fernandes said. “I look forward to the coming year and transitioning into the new role.”

Nucor to acquire one of Birmingham’s largest private companies

Southland Tube, which has long ranked as one of Birmingham’s largest private companies, is being acquired by Nucor Corp.

Nucor (NYSE: NUE), which is based in Charlotte, will pay $130 million to purchase Southland, which ranked 32nd on our 2016 Birmingham 100 List of the area’s largest private companies. Southland reported $180.9 million revenue for 2015.
