For GE Aviation, two futuristic manufacturing technologies that will change the design and performance of jet engines are taking off in Alabama.
Today, the Ohio-based company announced a $200 million plan to build a pair of plants in Huntsville that will produce silicon carbide materials used to make ultra-lightweight ceramic matrix composite components (CMCs) capable to withstanding extremely high temperatures.

New products of Mercedes’ Alabama plant help drive automaker’s record sales

Newly-designed SUVs produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa County are helping the German automaker register record sales.
Earlier this year, Alabama workers began building the GLE, a redesigned and renamed version of the plant’s flagship M-Class SUV, and the GLE Coupe, a coupe-style SUV that is positioned to compete with BMW’s X6. The vehicles recently hit dealer showrooms and are making a strong impression with buyers.

Honda’s New Hydrogen-Powered Vehicle Feels More Like A Real Car

TOKYO – The most notable thing about Honda Motor ‘s new hydrogen-powered Clarity fuel cell vehicle, unveiled Wednesday at the Tokyo Motor Show, is not the silent burst of acceleration it provides when your foot touches the pedal, or the fact that it emits nothing but water vapor from the tailpipe. It’s not even that the Clarity can go more than 400 miles between three-minute hydrogen fillings – assuming you have access to a hydrogen station.
No, the most important thing is that Honda’s new fuel cell system is one-tenth the cost of previous versions and – for the first time – fits neatly under the car’s hood, taking up no more space than a typical V-6 engine.
