Aerojet Rocketdyne to establish Defense Business Unit headquarters in Alabama

Aerojet Rocketdyne will establish its new Defense Business Unit headquarters in the Rocket City.

The company announced the change this morning in a news release, saying it will also move its Defense Advanced Programs, known as the Rocket Shop, to Huntsville in an effort to be closer to the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Army, NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.

The subsidiary of Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings said it will consolidate the company’s six business units into two – Space and Defense. The Space Business Unit will be supported by different Aerojet Rocketdyne sites throughout the country.

The 2016 Cars.com American-Made Index

CARS.COM – The Toyota Camry topped the American-Made Index for the second consecutive year, while the No. 2 Honda Accord and No. 5 Honda Pilot returned to the index for the first time since 2012. Also back are five AMI regulars: the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey and GM’s Michigan-built crossovers – the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. (GM will assemble the redesigned 2017 Acadia in Tennessee, not Michigan, but it wasn’t yet on sale during the period covered here, which is Jan. 1 to May 31.)

Kronospan creating 160 jobs in Alabama with $362M expansion

OXFORD, Alabama – Austria-based Kronospan, a leading manufacturer of wood-based panel products, said today that it plans to invest $362 million to expand its operations in Calhoun County, adding 160 jobs to its Alabama workforce. Kronospan said the expansion consists of four separate projects:

  • Two laminate flooring and decorative paper impregnation lines
  • A particleboard and thermally infused laminate line
  • An enlargement of the KronoChem resin plant
  • Development of a furniture cluster
