Continental Motors to build new Alabama manufacturing center

Continental Motors officials announced the plans for the new 225,000-square-foot facility, which will centralize the company’s operations scattered between 11 buildings in the Aeroplex, at a press conference today.

 The company’s lean manufacturing facility will be outfitted with $40 million in new equipment and will include a special area designated for evaluation of new production techniques and processes, including additive manufacturing and automation.

Boeing unveils ‘Deep Space Gateway’ stepping stones to Mars

 Boeing unveiled preliminary design concepts this week for a deep space station that would orbit the moon as a base for humans to safely explore space from the moon to Mars. The concept drawings and details were released Tuesday at the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colo.

 At the same time, Boeing also unveiled a first look at a transport system that could ferry astronauts from the deep space station to Mars.

Walmart to invest $135M in Alabama import distribution center

Walmart’s new 2.5 million-square-foot facility will service about 800 stores with products primarily shipped through the Alabama port’s container terminal. The company’s plans were announced today at a groundbreaking ceremony at APM Terminals.

“As you know, there’s been a tremendous competition for the distribution center that Walmart is going to build here in Mobile,” Glen Wilkins, public affairs directors for the retailer, said at the ceremony.
