The Occupational Health and Safety Management System, internationally known as OHSAS 18001:2007, is quickly becoming the latest requirement among automotive suppliers.

At an annual industry outlook conference for automotive manufacturing suppliers week, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced plans to launch a series of inspections at auto supplier plants across the South in the coming year, including those in Alabama.

Why does your company need a formal closely monitored safety program? Occupational health and safety management paves the way for the best possible working conditions in your organization. It provides guidelines on how to identify hazards and put in place the correct controls to manage them. This helps you to reduce workplace accidents and illness, cutting out related costs and downtime, as well as prioritizing the welfare of your staff. And better, safer working conditions lead to better performance.OHSAS 18001 not only motivates staff, it also engages customers and suppliers looking for businesses that take occupational health and safety management seriously.

The Alabama Technology Network (ATN) in conjunction with the Alabama Automotive Manufacuturers Association (AAMA) is hosting a free informational session on OHSAS 18001:2007.  This informational session gives an overview of the standard and the process by which ATN is assisting companies in implementation.
