If you are a small to medium-sized manufacturer in the United States, likely you are familiar with the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). If you are not familiar with it, now is the time to become better acquainted.
The MEP, which is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is a network of public/private partnerships across the country and in Puerto Rico. It works with small to midsized manufacturers to help them be more competitive.

The following list of do’s and don’ts is aimed at keeping manufacturers focused on the right thing rather than indulging in the ultimate waste: wasting time.
Do’s
1. Do perform a root cause analysis to understand wasteful habits. This analysis requires the question “why” be asked at least five times to find the original root cause of waste in the facility.

Carmakers Rapidly Adding Semi-Autonomous Features

Fully self-driving cars are a few years into the future. But some of the technology that will make them possible is already here.
Automakers are rapidly adding radar-and camera-based systems that can keep a car in its lane, detect pedestrians and brake automatically to avoid a collision. For now, they work with a driver behind the wheel, but eventually, versions of these systems will likely power self-driving cars.
