New wave of European suppliers hits South Expansions follow automakers’ lead

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Call it The Great Migration, Part 2.
As European automakers Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen and Volvo build or expand their assembly plants in the Southeast, a new wave of Tier 2 and Tier 3 European suppliers are coming to set up their first North American factories.
The companies typically are small, often family-owned and frequently German.

Rehau Construction announces $5M expansion in Cullman, 50 new jobs

Rehau Construction LLC, a manufacturer of polyethylene pipes, announced a $5 million, five-year expansion plan at its Cullman plant that the company said would create 50 new jobs.
The expansion is needed because Rehau will be making new gaskets for refrigerator and freezer doors for a “major manufacturer,” according to the Pullman Economic Development Agency, which held the announcement Friday at the Cullman City Hall auditorium.

Gadsden Fehrer plant announces $12 million expansion, adding 150 jobs

Fehrer Automotive will expand its Gadsden plant next spring, producing a $12 million line which would add about 150 jobs, company officials announced.
The expansion should be completed by the second half of next year.
In an announcement, Fehrer North America COO Alexander Doering said the expansion will make the company one of Etowah County’s largest employers.
