Made (and tested) in Alabama: State-built cars first get test track workouts

Before Alabama-made vehicles hit city streets and neighborhood roads, they get a workout on the test tracks at the state’s three auto assembly plants.

Banked curves, bumpy asphalt, smooth straightaways and skid pads are just some of the features that help put the models through paces that are designed to simulate all kinds of driving conditions.

The goal is to deliver top-notch cars, trucks, SUVs and minivans to customers and weed out any road noise, engine rattles, bad alignment or other problems.

Boeing Wins $3.2 Billion Dreamliner Order from China Southern

China Southern Airlines Co. agreed to buy Dreamliners valued at $3.2 billion in list prices from Boeing Co. as Asia’s biggest carrier by passenger numbers expands its fleet to meet a surge in travel demand.

The carrier chose the 787-9 model, with a list price of $271 million each, according to a Hong Kong stock exchange statement Wednesday. The planes will be delivered between 2018 and 2020 and funded using cash and loans from commercial banks, the Guangzhou, China-based airline said in the statement.

Two Rivers Lumber Co. to build $65M Alabama sawmill

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Governor Robert Bentley announced today that Two Rivers Lumber Co. plans to invest $65 million to build a state-of-the-art sawmill in Demopolis that will create 55 jobs initially and a total of 95 eventually.

“I am committed to helping the rural areas of the great state of Alabama become more prosperous through business growth and the creation of new jobs,” Governor Bentley said. “This investment from Two Rivers Lumber Co. will provide well-paying jobs to Alabama citizens and drive economic growth in Marengo County.
